Effect of Substrate Alloy Type on the Microstructure of the Substrate and Deposited Material Interface in Aluminium Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing

Wire + Arc Additive Manufacture is an Manufacturing process that requires a substrate to initiate the deposition process. In order reduce material waste, build and lead time, improve efficiency, it desirable include this in final part design. This approach valid option only if interface between deposited metal properties conform design specifications. The effect of type on microstructure aluminium was investigated. Microstructure micro-hardness measurements show alloy temper material. Microcracks as-deposited condition were found one substrate. hardness always lower than hardness. However, difference can be minimised by heat treatment even eliminated when wire are made same alloy.
